The power of brokenness(part 1)-Allowing God to break the limits over our lives!
This post begins a multi part series about the topic of the Power of Brokenness. I love journal ling my thoughts down on paper, but i’m still trying to make the leap to blogging haha though i have not much patience to type. Well, heard a sermon on CSCC’s website by Pastor Daniel in 2006, and with some of his points(included some of my own), shared it in combined cell group yesterday. Here goes.
Psalms 34:18-
The LORD is close to the brokenhearted
and saves those who are crushed in spirit
Brokenness here..is not talking about being broken over a relationship between boy n girl. (As in like the song Fixing a Broken Heart you know?)
The Cross is the ultimate expression of brokenness.
In John 12:23-26, we understand from nature that the grain has to first fall to the ground, die, before it can sprout out of its kernel and produce many more seeds.
Jesus was referring to Himself. The grain has to fall down to the earth and die, before it can bear much fruit. Jesus died on the Cross, so that today there are millions of Christians like you and me walking around.
Vs 25-Life refers to our soul: Intellect, will, feelings.
Vs 26: servants of god must follow the way of the Master, the pathway of brokenness so that we can produce much fruit
The reason why much of the church are not growing, and I am not referring to numbers, but in terms of spiritually, is because we refuse to let God break our lives and be broken. If we want to move on to the next level in our personal lives, as the church, then we must allow God to break areas of our life, that we may find our life back.
Matt 16:24-If anyone desires to come after Me, let him take up his cross, deny himself and follow me.
The Cross of Christ never comes on easy terms. The key to Holy Spirit power, is in brokenness. If we want to experience revival once again in our schools, get our breakthroughs, the key is in brokenness!
Smith Wigglesworth, the famous healing evangelist, when asked about his secret power, people thought it was his prayer life , bible reading, spiritual revelation, or maybe that he danced before God every morning. But he revealed : ”you want to know my secret? It’s brokenness”. The power that raised people from the dead, caused people on the train to sob because God’s presence was so strong upon him, was because he was broken!
God uses broken things! The key is to lay your life down at the altar. Understanding what brokenness really is isn’t hard. It’s not some draggy long face you need to pull around to show that you crucify your flesh, nor some mystical state of being tha only great men and women of God like Heidi Baker can achieve. In it’s essence, it’s just simply allowing the Holy Spirit to use your life for His purposes. In the next post, we’ll look at what brokenness isn’t, and what it is.
