Brokenness stretches us(part 2)
Isa 54:2-3:
Enlarge the place of your tent,
stretch your tent curtains wide,
do not hold back;
lengthen your cords,
strengthen your stakes.
For you will spread out to the right and to the left;
your descendants will dispossess nations
and settle in their desolate cities.
Another thing brokenness does is that it stretches us in all areas. Be it spiritually, emotionally or even physically, we will grow in our capacity as broken people before God. And we will not be able to be stretched until we have taken that leap of faith. If for example a person has had many emotional hurts in the past and now doesn’t trust anyone, and then realises that God has a plan of stretching the person in the area of relationships, then he/she has to be willing to learn to trust God, and open himself up again to trust people again.
Be willing to make mistakes. In God’s Will there are boundaries, but you are free to experiment within His Will.
I love the story of Thomas Edison. Contrary to popular belief, Edison did not invent the first light bulb. It was Humphry Davy, an English scientist who did it. Back in those days in the 1800s, the first light bulbs did not last beyond 40 hours as their filaments burnt out quickly. Edison is credited with inventing a unique filament which eventually allowed light bulbs to last up till 1500hours. But did you know that he had to spend about 10,000 times testing nearly every known material before he found the solution?
That is why his famous quote:
“I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that won’t work.” is still a source of inspiration for all today. Are we willing to be stretched by God? If we are a 5 man tent, are we willing to let the Lord stretch us to become 10 men tents, 20 men tents, 50 men tents…1000 men tents? If we would allow Him to do it, our capacities will vastly increase!
